De Soto County was founded in the year 1836. It took its name from Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto, the discoverer of the Mississippi River. The county was located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The county encloses an area of 496.77 sq mi. Hernando is the county seat. Southaven is the largest city.
